UNDERSTANDING IKHTILAT

    Assalamualaikum everyone, today I'm gonna share with you the topic about understanding ikhtilat. Maybe some of people already know what is the meaning of ikhtilat especially Muslim people. Ikhtilat directly means is mixing between two sexes (men and women) in one place. It is a common occurence in our daily live. Sometimes it occur at school, workplaces, universities, at markets, it also happen when there is a compilation of congregational prayers in mosques and so on. 

    Ikhtilat was originally allowed by syara', but it must be with some conditions. If not, then the human daily life will become difficult especially for women. However, we need to distinguish between permissible ikhtilat and forbidden khulwah. At first, the original law was Mubah (Harus) to facilitate human life. There is no osbtacle to it unless it leads to something illegal. As for Khulwah, it means mixing between men and women who are foreigners (can be married) in a place without being accompanied by the female mahram. The original law for this Khulwah is haram, except in emergency matters. The purpose is to prevent defamation.

    Now lets get to know the conditions that allow ikhtilat. Firstly, the women should wear hijab perfectly and for men it is necessary to cover their aurat. So, this is one of the main important things that Muslim people should do. When both men and women can cover their aurat perfectly, inshaAllah there will be easy to prevent ikhtilat without purpose. Secondly, a woman should refrain from wearing perfume or jewelry that can be seen after wearing the hijab. This is because it can attract people attention surround them especially men. Next, it must be ensured that such ikhtilat brings more good than bad. It means that if there is no other purpose than important thing that the men and women need to interact, better not to do it so that nothing bad can happen. Actually there are more conditions that can allow the ikhtilat, but I think with this three points you guys can get the point of understanding the ikhtilat right.
